AMD Laptop Processor
With the recent comeback of AMD after launching their Zen CPU architecture and with the Vega graphics, AMD is now threatening Intel in the mobile device category as they release their new APU. Meet Raven Ridge, AMD’s answer to Intel’s dominance in the mobile category.
AMD will release two chips under this APU, the Ryzen 7 2700U and the Ryzen 5 2500U, both will feature 4 cores and 8 threads. While they may be similar in performance, the R7 2700U contains 10 Vega compute units, and is clocked at 2.2/ 3.8 ghz. On the other hand, the R5 2500U contains 8 Vega compute units, and is clocked at 2.0 ghz/3.6 ghz. And with 15W TDP, these are the highest performance chips for the ultra-slim notebooks.
In a video released by AMD about these two chips, they compared the benchmark results against Intel i7 7200U, i7 8558U, and with the i5 7200U.
So, when will these chips be available? As of the moment, there are three laptops that are set to be released with either the R7 2700U or the R5 2500U; the Acer Swift 3, the HP Envy X360 and the Lenovo 720S.
